The foundation for the newly constructed Masjid Ummul Mu’mineen Aisha has been laid in Hulhumale, marking a significant milestone for the community. This mosque, which will also feature the first-ever Islamic research library, is being built with the generous support of Sheikh Ismail Mohamed.
A special ceremony to mark the occasion took place this evening in Hulhumale, with the attendance of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed. The mosque, set to be managed by Madina Investment, will stand on the land where the temporary mosque near the Redwave area in Hulhumale Phase 1was located.
This two-story mosque will not only serve as a place of worship but will also provide a dedicated space for students and individuals interested in Islamic research. The mosque will be equipped with a full library, enabling visitors to read books, conduct research, and complete assignments after prayers. This initiative makes Masjid Ummul Mu’mineen Aisha the first mosque to be established with an integrated research library, a unique and valuable feature for the community.
The mosque will have the capacity to accommodate approximately 2,000 people for prayer, including both indoor and outdoor spaces. Upon completion, it will feature modern amenities such as a fully solar-powered system, air conditioning, a designated prayer area for women, and specialized restroom facilities.
This new mosque, named after the beloved wife of the Prophet, Ummul Mu’mineen Aisha, is set to serve as a beacon of both spiritual and intellectual growth for the community in Hulhumale.
The construction of this mosque has been contracted to Mala Construction at a cost of 20 million Rufiyaa, with plans to complete it within one year. The mosque is expected to be opened in time for the month of Ramadan in the year 1447 of the Hijri calendar. Once open, the mosque will host educational lectures and Quran memorization programs to further enrich the community.
