Gaza rightfully belongs to the Palestinian people، Maldives Reaffirms It Will Never Support Efforts to Evacuate Palestinians from Gaza

In a strong and principled statement, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu of the Maldives has reiterated the nation’s steadfast commitment to the Palestinian cause, emphasizing that the Maldives will never support any efforts by any party to evacuate Palestinians from Gaza. The President’s remarks underscore the Maldives' unwavering stance on the rights of the Palestinian people and its dedication to achieving a just and lasting resolution to the conflict.

President Muizzu highlighted key aspects of the Maldives' position on the Palestinian issue, including the call for a return to pre-1967 borders, the recognition of East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. These principles, he asserted, are essential for ensuring peace, justice, and stability in the region.

The President also recalled the Maldives' active role in advocating for Palestinian rights on the global stage. Last year, the Maldives submitted a Declaration of Intervention in support of South Africa’s case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Additionally, the Maldives co-sponsored a United Nations General Assembly resolution on December 19, 2024, which sought an advisory opinion from the ICJ regarding Israel’s obligations under international law in relation to humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians.

President Muizzu emphasized that the land of Gaza rightfully belongs to the Palestinian people, and the Maldives will continue to provide full support, backing, and assistance to their legitimate aspirations for statehood. "The Maldives stands firmly with the Palestinian people in their struggle to realize their dream of establishing an independent and sovereign state," he stated.

The President’s statement reflects the Maldives' long-standing solidarity with Palestine and its commitment to upholding international law and human rights. As the global community continues to grapple with the complexities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the Maldives remains a vocal advocate for justice, self-determination, and the rights of the Palestinian people.
