The Maldives is set to witness a transformative leap in Islamic education as the Ministry of Islamic Affairs unveils 50 new scholarships funded through the Maldives Zakat Fund. Aimed at supporting higher education both locally and internationally, the initiative is expected to significantly strengthen the nation’s capacity in Islamic scholarship and institutional development.
Announced at a special ceremony held at the Islamic Center’s conference hall, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed hailed the initiative as a "major revolution" in the field of Islamic studies. He emphasized the importance of nurturing not only scholars but also professionals capable of managing Islamic institutions and leading in fields like Islamic finance.
“We need individuals who can provide Islamic dawah, but we also need experts in management and other key areas, all grounded in Islamic knowledge. The country’s progress depends on it,” the Minister stated.
Dr. Shaheem noted that this scholarship program reflects the vision of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s government to prioritize Islamic education through the strategic use of Zakat funds. He highlighted this move as a crucial step in developing skilled individuals to advance the Islamic sector nationwide.
The Minister also expressed sincere appreciation to President Dr. Muizzu for his continued support of Islamic development and the Maldives Zakat House, which plays a central role in administering the scholarships.
With this initiative, the government aims to pave the way for a new generation of leaders who will contribute to the growth and modernization of Islamic education and institutions across the Maldives.
