In the 2024 Presidential Statement, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu highlighted the establishment of Zakat House as a key initiative to strengthen and expand the nation’s Zakat system. Since its inception, the work of Zakat House has brought significant benefits to both the people and the nation. The President noted that efforts are underway to establish income-generating resources for those registered in the poverty registry, with necessary rules and regulations developed and approved to modernize and organize the Zakat system in a way that maximizes its impact.
The President also shared that the International Zakat Conference (INZEC) was held to gain technical expertise in implementing Zakat operations using modern technology. He emphasized that once the modernized Zakat system is fully operational, it will bring transformative positive changes to the nation’s financial and social justice systems, contributing to the overall prosperity of society. "With Allah’s will, Maldivians will soon witness a day without extreme poverty," he stated.
One year after the establishment of the Maldives Zakat House, numerous initiatives have been launched to raise awareness about Zakat and strengthen the system. A notable achievement in 2024 was the first year that property Zakat collections surpassed 100 million rufiyaa, marking a significant milestone for the country’s efforts to support the welfare of its citizens.
These ongoing developments underscore the Maldives' commitment to financial equity, social justice, and the well-being of its people.
