Today marks a historic milestone for the Maldives as the nation officially joins the Makkah Route Initiative—an achievement Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, credits to the visionary leadership of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at Velana International Airport, Minister Shaheem described the occasion as a joyous and proud moment for all Maldivians. He emphasized that the positive changes initiated in Hajj affairs under President Muizzu’s administration are now coming to fruition, transforming the pilgrimage experience for Maldivian pilgrims.
“This is a historic page in our efforts to ease and enhance the Hajj journey for our citizens,” the Minister said, highlighting that these advancements are a direct result of the policies and reforms introduced by the President since taking office.
He noted that under President Muizzu’s leadership, numerous initiatives have been launched to strengthen the Hajj system, streamline processes, and implement solutions that prioritize the comfort and convenience of pilgrims. These efforts have included the introduction of new policies and the resolution of longstanding challenges in Hajj administration.
Minister Shaheem expressed sincere gratitude to President Muizzu for his strong support and commitment to making the Makkah Route Initiative a reality for the Maldives.
He further revealed that the inclusion of the Maldives in the Makkah Route Initiative was made possible through special exemptions granted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with the personal approval of King Salman bin Abdulaziz. “This is a tremendous honor for the Maldivian people,” he added, recognizing the close and valued relationship between the two nations.
