President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially inaugurated the Makkah Route Initiative in the Maldives, marking a major milestone in enhancing the Hajj pilgrimage experience for Maldivian pilgrims.
The launch ceremony took place this afternoon at Velana International Airport, with distinguished attendees including the Chairman of the Makkah Route Initiative Committee and Advisor to the Saudi Interior Minister, Lieutenant General His Excellency Sulaiman bin Abdulaziz Al-Yahya. He was accompanied by a high-level Saudi delegation. Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed and senior Maldivian government officials were also present.
The Makkah Route Initiative is designed to significantly ease the travel process for pilgrims by allowing them to complete Saudi immigration procedures in the Maldives prior to departure. Additionally, the initiative will ensure that pilgrims’ luggage is transported directly to their hotels in Saudi Arabia, eliminating lengthy processing times at Jeddah Airport and providing a smoother, more convenient travel experience.
