Maldivian Hajj pilgrims received a warm and historic welcome at Jeddah Airport as they arrived in Saudi Arabia for the sacred pilgrimage, under the Kingdom’s prestigious Makkah Route Initiative.
This marks the first time Maldivian pilgrims have been greeted with such hospitality at Jeddah Airport. The welcome ceremony was attended by officials from the Makkah Route Initiative, the Maldivian Hajj Mission, the Maldivian Embassy in Saudi Arabia, and the Hajj Corporation, underscoring the significance of the moment.
The Makkah Route Initiative, officially launched in the Maldives today, streamlines the travel process by allowing pilgrims to complete all Saudi immigration procedures before departing the Maldives. Thanks to this initiative, pilgrims were able to bypass lengthy immigration queues upon arrival and proceed directly to their accommodations — a remarkable convenience that was warmly appreciated.
This year also sees major enhancements in Hajj arrangements for Maldivians, implemented under the leadership of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who has prioritized improved service quality for pilgrims.
A total of 234 pilgrims departed from the Maldives today, with a second group scheduled to depart tomorrow morning.
